<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>                                                                              </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Guts.Glam.Grace. Magazine: </strong>Are you living your dreams?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Tammie Reed: </strong>I am absolutely living my dreams! I always loved working around people because I have a special place in my heart for them. Yes I think I am!<span id="more-10836"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong> </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>Are your career goals in line with your personal goals?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">     </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>All my goals are not in line. I want to do so many things but I guess it takes time. I am a dreamer. I have so many things written down, I just have to place all my ducks in a row, lol.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>Tell us about your company.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>Well my brand is Talking with Tami. It&#8217;s my baby, I love it! I am a social media princess and I work with over 500 brands! I interview celebs, review products, run my blog, travel write, hosts events and I absolutely love it.  Simply pinktastic!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>Has there been an event/person that has greatly influenced you to be the person you are today?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">     </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>So many people have influenced me, but one that sticks out the most is Paula Deen.  She started her career later in life.  I was a stay at home mom for many years.  I sacrificed so much for my 2 kids and now that they are older, I can do what I always wanted. My family always comes first.  Now I can spread my wings.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>Three years ago, did you envision yourself being where you are today? If not what&#8217;s different? What would you change?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>Three years ago, I was doing this exact same thing. I&#8217;ve always envisioned myself doing something fun and helping others. Only difference from 3 years ago, I was in a studio producing my talk show. Now everything Talking With Tami has moved online. I had just launched my blog 3 years ago too. I&#8217;m always revamping myself lol.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>How do you empower yourself? What keeps you motivated and staying on course to reach your goals?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>My immediate family keeps me motivated. Looking at my kids makes me a strong lady with great will power! My hubby is my biggest cheerleader and he tells me everyday I can do it! I get knocked down but I keep getting back up! You have to have tough skin in this business and if you can&#8217;t take a couple of jabs and a lot of no&#8217;s you may want to find another career path! It&#8217;s a crazy business and I have learned that over the years! I will never stop reaching my goals of one day letting the world know who I am.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>What types of obstacles did you have to overcome?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>I have had many obstacles. People will promise you they can help you but really have other intensions or self gain, fake people, slackers and I can go on. I pray for them, wish them well and keep it moving!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>What have you learned about yourself through this journey?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>I have learned that I have a HUGE giving heart. It gets broken sometimes, but darn it, It&#8217;s stronger than I had ever imagined!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>Who/what keeps you grounded?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>Oh Lawd, my hubby keeps me grounded lol. I can come home and say hey I interviewed Martha Stewart today and he will look at me and say with a blank stare, “Oh really? Ok, whats for dinner, I&#8217;m starved!” Lmao!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>Has your personal life changed as a result of your career achievements?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>Yes, my personal life has changed quite a bit, especially from other family members. They can&#8217;t relate.  They don&#8217;t know what to say or do with me.  I have rubbed elbows with some of the most influential people that you could ever imagine.  They think that I have gotten the big head but if you were to meet me, I have not changed I just have been blessed…ha!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong> How do <strong>you</strong> embody guts, glamour and grace?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR:</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Guts: Moving to Atlanta, a foreign place to me, my husband and kids. Getting out there, grinding and not looking back.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Glam: I have had a lot of help from my glam squad. Celeb Photographers Drexina Nelson and Derek Blanks take amazing pics of me. Stephanie Dawn beats my face and I&#8217;m mainly styled by Julian Lark.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Grace: In this business keep your head up high, regardless of whats going on behind closed doors, late student loans, bills etc.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>What’s one defining moment in your career?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">     </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>A defining moment in my career was when I hosted an event with Fantasia and Eva Pigford at the Georgia World Congress Center. It was for Breast Cancer Awareness and I stood there like, wow I am really doing this! Fab!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>Who/what are your favorites (pick 5):</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR:</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Charity: Susan G Komen(breast cancer awareness)</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Color: Pink, of course!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Designers: Betsey Johnson</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Movie: Sweet Charity</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">TV Show: The Real Housewives of Atlanta</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>With your success, do you think money can buy you happiness?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>I do not think money can buy you happiness, but it would damn sure help and a girl get a new pair of shoes! tee hee!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>What advice can you give to other people on the rise?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">     </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>Please don&#8217;t listen to people in your ear all the time telling you that you can’t do this or that. Please excuse yourself or move to other side of the room. Get rid of negative people and energy around you fast!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>What’s up next? Projects, trips, next big splurge…</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>Up coming things hmm?  I will be featured in the December issue of Self Magazine and doing a lot of blogger events, hosting some parties, beauty pageants out of town and enjoying my family. Traveling a bit oversees as well. Keeping fingers crossed that I will go to Paris, France.  God is good!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: </strong>Anything else you’d like to share???</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>TR: </strong>I would like to say thank you so much for wanting to interview with lil ol’ me! You guys rock! Keep up the good work! xoxo Visit my site at <a href="http://www.talkingwithtami.com" rel="nofollow" >www.talkingwithtami.com</a>.</p>

<strong>Guts.Glam.Grace. Magazine: Are you living your dreams?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">Indigo Charlie:</span></strong> In my dreams I am a kind, caring, loving person who will make a difference in the world, so I would have to say yes, I am living my dreams!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">My recent endeavors have been juicy red cherries on top of an already yummy life. I feel at home in a school surrounded by creative people who are fly, fabulous and driven. FIDM was always my dream school and I am loving every minute there. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">And my job, oh my lovely job!  Traveling all over the country, going to fabulous events, and meeting the fiercest of the fierce people is still mind blowing. I have an amazing boss!  I’m lucky.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The most precious treat of life has been the process of recording my debut EP. I never thought it’d be on the menu, but it is! I can’t believe it. I actually can’t believe it. My life has surpassed any dream I could have possibly have. Saying this doesn’t even feel real. Am I dreaming? Pinch me!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Has there been an event/person that has greatly influenced you to be the person you are today?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">IC:</span></strong> My life and everyone in it has influenced me in one way or another along the way.  I appreciate each and every person who I have ever known.  Good or bad, they have all played a part in who I am today.  I am a person made up of my experiences and the love around me. Some experiences have been sad and from that I’ve learned how to bounce back. Some have been happy and those I cherish. Life is meant for smiles and beautiful feelings.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The woman who taught me that and who has been my back bone, front bone, side bone, hand bone, and every other body bone has been my mother. She has taught me how to be kind, lovely, fly, humble, appreciative, trust worthy and instilled in me the core values that make me who I am. I have her to thank her for everything. She makes it happen.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Three years ago, did you envision yourself being where you are today? If not what&#8217;s different? What would you change?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">IC:</span></strong> Three years ago I was letting my hair blow crazy in my brand new white convertible Mustang driving 85 down Newport Coast. I had my car first before I received my license because I failed the test by one question…..three times. Don’t judge me.  Honestly, three years ago it was all about getting my first car (YUM), cheerleading, and parties. Newport Beach life…My oh my how that’s changed.  After twelve years of cheer, I put the pom-poms down my senior year of high school. Honestly I must say I do miss the games.  And as for those Friday night parties and red cups, I’ve traded them in for a design book and hours of studying. Cheers.  I’ve always lived for art, music and fashion…some things never change.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: How do you empower yourself? What keeps you motivated and staying on course to reach your goals?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">IC:</span></strong> I refuse not to make it. Sometimes I don’t even realize how much I am really doing at one time because all I do is think about making it happen. It’s time for me to take care of my mom. I want to get to a point where she gets to work for fun, or not work at all and just paint. I am the exact same age my mom was when she had me and you know what she did…..MADE IT FREAKING HAPPEN. She has not asked me to help, but my greatest accomplishment would be to get to a point of stability where my mom never has to pay another bill. It is empowering to know that I am on my way to becoming a strong woman like my mother.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What types of obstacles did you have to overcome?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">IC:</span></strong> Not having enough hours in the day is my biggest obstacle.  Do you know how to add a few more hours to the day?  Please and thank you. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/indi_191_2.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10777" title="indi_19[1]_2" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/indi_191_2-225x300.jpg" alt="indi 191 2 225x300 Indigo Charlie" width="225" height="300" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What have you learned about yourself through this journey?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">IC:</span></strong> I am much stronger than I had ever imagined. I am a young adult on the road to be becoming the woman that I want to be. I am able to stand on my own two feet, although, thankfully I don’t always  have to. I still have my mommy when I need her.  I also learned that I am not afraid to stand alone. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Who/what keeps you grounded?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">IC:</span></strong> God, my mom and hard work. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Has your personal life changed as a result of your career achievements?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">IC:</span></strong> My personal life has changed a lot over the last couple of years just in general.  I had to weed out a lot of….stuff from my life.  I am really into working hard, focusing on school, my job and career.  In any spare time after that, I spend enjoying life with people who love me and who I love.  Loyal, honest and amazing people. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: How do you embody guts, glamour and grace?</strong><br />
 <br />
<strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">IC:</span></strong> I embody guts, glamour and grace by having the guts to chase my dreams, being glamorous and fly while doing it and cherishing the grace of God, appreciating every moment, every blessing and every experience.  Tomorrow isn’t promised.  I am living fully, now.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Who/what are your favorites:</strong><br />
<strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">IC:<br />
</span></strong>Charity- M.A.D.D.<br />
City- Barcelona, Spain is my favorite city in the entire world. I went there for my graduation trip and was exposed to the richest form of culture and art I had ever seen. Honestly, it changed my life.<br />
Color- My favorite color is green, which I recently just found out is the same color as my birthstone. What a cawinkidink. Most people equate green with jealousy, envy, and money, but I equate it with nature and the beauty in life.<br />
Designers- Viktor and Rolf, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Armani Prive, and Zac Posen<br />
Movie- 13, Lords of Dogtown, and everything TWILIGHT!<br />
Recent purchase- All my night walker shoes.<br />
Restaurant- The Reel Inn located in Malibu, CA<br />
Season- Summer! I am a Cali girl after all.<br />
TV Show- Criminal Minds</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: With your success, do you think money can buy you happiness?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">IC:</span></strong> Never! Happiness comes from within and from the beautiful company you keep. Growing up we went through great financial times and rough financial times….the amazing thing is that I never knew the difference. My mom was always FLY. I was always taken care of. That is happiness.  Money never defined us, I was raised that way.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What advice can you give to other people on the rise?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">IC:</span></strong> Never be scared of a little hard work. It’s not all about the hottest party, the cutest boy, or who is shaking their boogie and posting it on Facebook. Focus on yourself. Make your life HAPPEN. If you think you are working hard, I guarantee there is someone working just as hard or harder. If you want to make it happen for yourself, the work needs to be put in. It always pays off in the long or short run and trust me, your hard work will not go unnoticed. Someone is always watching. Go after YOUR dreams.  Be you, not a copy of someone else.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What’s up next? Projects, trips, next big splurge…</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #00ff00;">IC:</span></strong> I am going to continue to work hard on what is on my plate right now and continue to focus my energy and make it happen. Like I said before, I wont stop until I make it. Soon you should be seeing an EP from me that I will be shopping to labels, along with a college degree. Those are the two most important things coming up. As for leisure I am trying to save up my money to treat my mom to a trip. I told her to pick a place on the map and we’d make it happen. I know…aren’t I just the sweetest daughter?  I am hinting London, but she is hinting Rome for a little “Eat. Pray. Love.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>

<strong>GGG: Anything else you’d like to share???</strong></p>

Be beautiful. Be pure.  Be fly.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong> </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Guts.Glam.Grace.: Are you living your dreams?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">Linda Lee:</span></strong> To a certain degree, yes.  Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a lawyer.  Now that I am, I’m content but not satisfied.  I don’t feel as if I’ve reached my full potential with my career. I still feel like there is much more for me to accomplish.  Becoming a lawyer was just a starting point.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong> </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Are your career goals in line with your personal goals?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> Somewhat.  On one hand, I feel that being a criminal defense lawyer provides me with the opportunity to fight for justice.  The justice process is so incredibly systematic and defendants need someone to go in there and shake things up for them otherwise they will plead guilty to things not realizing how it will affect them later in life.  Sometimes people make stupid mistakes but<span id="more-10724"></span> they are not bad people and it’s my job to get the prosecutor to see why this person is really different and deserves a better deal or to take it to trial.  On the other hand, I get a lot of guilty people off for some pretty violent crimes.  Personally, I work with people in a high-risk gang area and my goal is to prevent kids from getting in gangs and to help those who are but sometimes I find myself in an awkward position when the same neighborhood I’m trying to clean up is being poisoned by one of my clients and I get them off.  I had one kid, who just couldn’t get it and it was sad.  I worked out a great deal for him for two serious felonies and tried to help him get back in school and out of the gangs, but he came back to me with an attempted murder charge.  It was heartbreaking to see the depth of the reach of gangs and how easy it is to be sucked back into it.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Tell us about your company.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> The Lee Law Firm is a boutique law firm that specializes in criminal law.  In particular, my firm is all about trial advocacy.  I go to trial, if necessary.  I often tell potential clients, “Hey, if you are just going to take a deal then you don’t need me. You can do that on your own.  But if you want to fight this thing, then you come back and see me.”  I really care about my clients.  I fight hard for them. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Has there been an event/person that has greatly influenced you to be the person you are today?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> I am the person I am today because of God’s grace and unconditional love, because of a grandmother who helped raise me, because of an aunt who was always there for me, and because of a mom loved me the best she knew how and made education a priority.  I am the person I am today because that same mom was a physically and mentally abusive alcoholic who wasted her potential.  I never wanted to succumb to my surroundings, living in the ghetto on welfare and Section 8, and so I decided I was going to succeed where my mother failed.  I wanted to get away from everything and just be different. My mother is a genius but she couldn’t put the bottle down long enough to capitalize on it. Her mistakes benefitted me because I grew up knowing what not to do.  But, with all that said, my mother was an amazing mom when she was sober.  She raised my sister and I alone, was the first in the family to graduate college, and she put education first.  She wanted my sister and me to go to a Catholic school and so she worked part-time as a janitor at our school to help reduce the tuition.  My sister and I were the only two Blacks in this school for awhile and our mom was the janitor.  Kids can be cruel, that’s all I’m going to say about that one.  But my mom didn’t care about the racial slurs and name-calling; she wanted me to have a better education.  For years, I hated my mom because of the disease of alcoholism and her abusive ways, but I have come to see that she has become the most influential person in my life.  She forced me to grow up. She forced me to be the parent in the house. She forced me to be strong and resilient.  She motivated me to do better. She instilled the value of education in me. Transcending her shortcomings became my goal in life.  With God there to be my spiritual father, I am now the person you see.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Three years ago, did you envision yourself being where you are today? If not what&#8217;s different? What would you change?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> Simply put, no. I would not have thought that I would have the status that I have.  I could see myself being a prosecutor as that was the obvious step for someone like me, considering all the trial competitions and awards I won.  But, I did not envision being on national TV shows regularly, having my own law firm, and doing all the other things I’m doing.  But, I must say, I knew I was destined to do more than prosecute in small town, USA.  I wouldn’t change a thing about my life, right now.  But, I don’t think this is it for me.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: How do you empower yourself? What keeps you motivated and staying on course to reach your goals?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> Well, I have no choice but to succeed. I have no choice because I come from absolutely nothing. I don’t have parents who can rescue me if I fail. I have to make it. Period. My family always put pressure on me as a child. Everyone said I was the “chosen one.”  I remember telling my aunt that I felt too much pressure from the family to succeed.  I said, “it’s a lot of weight on my shoulders.”  She said, “How much weight do you think Jesus had on his shoulders when he had to carry that cross, with a crown of thorns piercing through his head, before being nailed to the very same cross he had to carry?”  I just looked at her. She said, “Exactly. I don’t want to hear it. You have to make it. The whole family is depending on you.”  That really touched me. I realized she was right.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What types of obstacles did you have to overcome?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> Too many to count, really.  But, I’ve always been blessed.  I would say that poverty was the biggest obstacle and all the ugly things that come with living in poverty.  Limited funds mean limited access which equals limited growth.  Living in poverty, seeing death, crime, hate, gangs, violence, all of that coupled with what I had to deal with at home, it was a lot to overcome.  But, I wouldn’t change it.  Living in poverty also created beautiful community relationships, a commitment to God that is unsurpassed, and hope. My success has given so many others in similar situations hope and belief that they can do it, as well. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What have you learned about yourself through this journey?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> I’m a soul survivor. Lol Not quite the same as Young Jeezy and Akon, but I the sentiment is the same.  I do whatever it takes to make it.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Who/what keeps you grounded?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> I can’t be ungrounded. I am who I am. I’m down-to-earth. I keep it real. Believe it or not, I still struggle. I still don’t feel like I’ve made it. I’m never going to change who I am. I never put myself above anyone.  Being a lawyer is a job.   Some people are impressed with the title, but it’s just my title. My title doesn’t define who I really am. Those closest to me know I’m still the crazy Linda that I’ve always been. I laugh, I joke, I haven’t changed the person I am. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Has your personal life changed as a result of your career achievements?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> Well, I think personal life is affected by my career.  I personally want to move to NYC, but living in Denver is great for my career.  I’m pretty well known, I’m developing a solid client base, so professionally this is the best place for me to be right now.  However, I do plan on moving to NYC in 2013 since I won’t have to take the bar exam.  That was horrible. Once is enough.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: How do you embody guts, glamour and grace?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> I had the guts to start my own firm. I had no idea where I was going to get clients or even if I could get clients.  I took my retirement money from the prosecutor’s office (which was only about $4000) and invested it into advertising, buying office supplies, business cards, and I prayed on it. I had times where I had no idea when the next client would call, but I slowly built up my business and, eventually, became a notable competitor.  Everything I do is done in style.  I’m all about the glam.  From appearing on Headline News to rocking the latest styles in fashion.  Being a lawyer is only part of it, you have to look the part. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What’s one defining moment in your career?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> I represented the potential co-conspirator in the Balloon Boy case.  The case where the parents claimed their child was in the UFO shaped balloon but it was all a hoax.  Well, I represented the potential co-conspirator who sold emails to the media proving the whole thing was a hoax.  He was not charged and we were able to go on different national TV shows.  After appearing on those shows, I was asked to return.  I’m now an Expert Panelist for Nancy Grace and a Legal Commentator for ABC News. That case really put me on the map.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Let&#8217;s be a little silly, who/what are your favorites:</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: With your success, do you think money can buy you happiness?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> No.  The more money you make, the more likely it is that you are always stressed out about something.  Money can’t make you happy, but it can alleviate a lot of problems that can make you unhappy.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What advice can you give to other people on the rise?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #800080;">LL:</span></strong> Stay on your grind.  Just press through the hard times and never let anyone make you doubt your potential.  Know your worth and seek it with full force. </p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong> <span id="more-10557"></span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #000000;">Guts.Glam.Grace.: Are you living your dreams?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Lucinda Cross:</span></strong> Yes I am living my dreams actively.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #000000;">GGG: Are your career goals in line with your personal goals?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> My career goals and my personal goals are in alignment.  I am living my purpose and supporting others to do the same.  I wake up every morning loving what I do and the choices I made to be a   mom entrepreneur.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">  </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #000000;">GGG: Tell us about your company.</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> My company, <strong>Corporate Mom Dropouts</strong>, helps women give birth to  sustainable business models, earn more money and spend more time with their family.  We provide online and offline tools that helps ‘mompreneurs’ to focus, take action and step into their greatness.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">  </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #000000;">GGG: Has there been an event/person that has greatly influenced you to be the person you are today?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> Yes I must thank my mentor Andrew Morrison for his powerful influence and showing me how yo be confident in my gifts and talents, and how to use them to be successful.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #000000;">GGG: Three years ago, did you envision yourself being where you are today? If not what&#8217;s different? What would you change?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> I did not see this road that I am traveling.  I know I was making a shift and I decided to get out of my own way, stop self sabotaging myself and get out of my own way so that success could step in. My success involved me, identifying my niche, discovering my power, writing my book and self publishing and stepping out of my comfort zone. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #000000;">GGG: How do you empower yourself? What keeps you motivated and staying on course to reach your goals?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> I stay empowered by praying, meditating and taking time out for me.  I enjoy visualizing and taking steps towards smaller goals to         accomplish the bigger ones.  I get excited when I consult with a client and they begin to get clear, their passion gets reignited, their   problem is solved and they move into action.  I love to see how the elements fall into place and manifest.  My kids keep me motivated,  they keep me on course.  They are my members in my Board of Directors and they are all under 10 years old. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">  </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What types of obstacles did you have to overcome?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> I had to overcome the obstacle of not understanding my value.  I always bargained and lowered my prices, it caused a lot of frustration and it made me not like what I was doing in business anymore.  I felt overworked and under paid.  I had to realize that just because I loved what I did, did not mean that I had to do it for free or for a low fee than what I felt it was worth.  Now I understand and know that what I bring to the table is unique and of high quality.  My prices and business may not appeal to all, but the ones who it does target will reap a huge return on their investment.  I run a Five star business, not a two star.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What have you learned about yourself through this journey?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> I learned that I have a unique style, brand and gift.  I learned that I make an impact.  I am running business the way God wants me to run business and not based on someone else.  I am authentic and I love it.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">  </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Who/what keeps you grounded?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> My God keeps me grounded, I make sure that I use divine timing, divine instruction and divine guidance before I make a move in life. I have a mandatory morning meeting with my higher power. My husband is a HUGE supporter in everything I do and he is a Mr. Mom. He understands that I love my business and I love my family. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Has your personal life changed as a result of your career achievements?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> Yes, my life has become smaller in friends and larger in influence.  Many of my friends and many of the things I used to do, I don’t have time or don’t choose to do anymore.  The places I used to go and the mindset has completely shifted.  I am now focused only on creating a lifestyle I love and can enjoy year after year.  I am living   life on my terms and do not let friends jeopardize my freedom.  My circle of influence has grown, I now have people who are living life   the way they want, walking the walk, talking the talk and are positive mentally, spiritually and financially…yes positive financially…bank accounts with multiple zero’s.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: How do you embody guts, glamour and grace? </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><em>Guts:</em></strong> I make bold moves and don’t take no for an answer.  When I show up, I show out.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><em>Glamour:</em></strong> I love to dress my crown (my head, my hair) so I wear signature headbands, flowers or feathers to show that I am a Queen of Her own Kingdom.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><em>Grace:</em></strong> I listen, I pray, I cry and I laugh. I cook a good meal.  I run a business and take care of the kids and date my husband as if we  just met. Maya Angelo calls it a Phenomenal Woman; I call it Super Woman with grace of course.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What’s one defining moment in your career?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> My book signing, when over 200 people showed up.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Who/what are your favorites:</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">City(ies): ATL</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Color: RED</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Restaurant: P.F Chang</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Season: Summer</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> TV Show: Oprah</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: With your success, do you think money can buy you happiness? </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> Since happiness is an emotion, it is a feeling and we all know that feelings are temporary, feelings are energy in motion, so yes, money creates a temporary emotion sometimes happiness and sometimes loneliness.  I do think money can buy happiness, has it bought mine, no, it just creates comfortability, it gives you tangible things.  My emotion of happiness comes from being aligned to my passion; that’s my success.  When I have encouraged a mother to spend more time with her children and earn a living.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What advice can you give to other people on the rise?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> BE, DO and HAVE.  Focus on your intentions.  Based on what you intend to create, you must identify who do you need to Be, what do you need to Do to Have<strong> </strong>more. Be more, Do more and Have more in this season.  Be authentic to your gifts and talents and use them.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: What’s up next? Projects, trips, next big splurge…</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> I have my Super Mom Entrepreneur Conference in October 2010.  In 2011, I will be doing a 15 city Tour in 90 Days promoting Corporate Mom Dropouts, and The Lucinda Cross Experience.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GGG: Anything else you’d like to share???</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">LC:</span></strong> Make sure you connect with a mentor or a coach; you don’t have to embark on this journey alone. Find someone to hold your hand and shorten your learning curve. Invest in yourself and be willing to DWIT, do whatever it takes to succeed on your own terms.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">As a child, Chris Dickens loved to story-tell and act out his imagination.  He had dreams of one day becoming an entertainer. But, like many of us, as we grow and get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, he allowed his dreams and passions to subside while he raised a family.  Check out what made him realize the importance of revitalizing and striving for his dreams, and how he is now making them a reality.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span id="more-10048"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>1) Tell us about “Vigilante Project.”</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">“Vigilante Project” is a new and exciting film written by yours truly and my writing partner, Phil Morgenthaler. Our company, Yvette Avenue Productions, is actively looking for any and everyone that can help to bring this project to the big screen.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>2) What is the thought process behind the film?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Our thought process was simple: How does the average Joe become a vigilante?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">We created this relationship between the main character and his sister, and then we have this tragedy which calls our hero to action. But, where does he start? What would you do?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">We&#8217;ve all seen the superhero movies, and by that I mean the guys that have special powers, special training, or special resources to help them get the job done. However our main character is not a superhero. He’s a college student in New York City. So, with no superpowers, limited income, few resources, and no detective experience, Alvin Gentry seeks retribution. Those superhero type films typically have a short training montage. In the case of Vigilante Project, the film is the montage.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>3) Are you living your dreams?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I fell in love with storytelling at a very young age. My dream has always been to entertain and to share my vision with the world. This project has allowed me to do that not only on paper, but also on film.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Taking the advice of a potential producer to put together a demo reel, we shot a trailer for the film to showcase the character&#8217;s costume, fighting style, weapons, and to introduce the basic premise of the film.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">It was very low budget. We found our lead actor and crew on Craigslist. Everyone else involved were friends that jumped in to help.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Seeing the finished product was amazing. Phil and I were able to take our ideas, and put them on screen. I can’t wait to see it on the big screen, but for now you can check it out on YouTube. <p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>4) Are your career goals in line with your personal goals?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As a Christian, my personal goal is to live a life that’s glorifying and pleasing to God. I know that the film industry and the Hollywood lifestyle can be a dangerous place, but temptation is not just in Hollywood, it’s everywhere. With God’s help, I believe that I can continue to be a good husband, father, and I can be an amazing filmmaker as well.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Vigilante Project is the first in a long line of films that I want to make. I am hoping that this launches my career, and grants me the necessary access to learn “the business.” I have a lot to learn, but my ultimate career goal is to someday direct feature films.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>5) Has there been an event/person that has greatly influenced you to be the person you are today?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">One of my best friends, Mike Urbano, died in a motorcycle accident in 2005. That event shook my world to the foundation. He was like a brother to me and when he died it was a huge wake up call. Not only did it bring me back to a relationship with the Lord, but it also inspired me to go after the things that I want. Life is short, and then you die. It’s what you do today, and where you’re going after, that’s important.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>6) Three years ago, did you envision yourself being where you are today? If not, what&#8217;s different? What would you change?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Three years ago I was working as a commodities broker and was focused on technical analysis and trading. To be honest, making movies was the last thing on my mind. Every now and then I would get an idea. I’d jot it down and daydream a bit, but it wasn’t until the market changed in 2008 that I really started planning my escape from the cubicle.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">The truth is we’ve had some of these ideas for years. When I was in the 8th grade, Phil and I were playing a role-playing game (nerdy I know). We were deep into it and some cool stuff was happening and I remember telling him, “I wish you could see what I see in my head. We should make a movie.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">I guess I never lost the vision or the desire to be a filmmaker, but there definitely were times that it was more prominent than others.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>7) How do you empower yourself? What keeps you motivated and staying on course to reach your goals?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I empower myself through visualization. I stay motivated because in my head it’s already happened, and I just have to take the steps to get there. In my mind, I have already sold the screenplay. In my mind, I have walked the red carpet at the premiere. I stay motivated by setting goals.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">They say that the difference between a dream and a goal is writing it down. I take it one step further. I visualize the goal, write it down, and then work backward until I get to today. In that process I ask myself, “What can I do today to sell my screenplay? What can I do today to get to that red carpet? What can I do today to win that Oscar?”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Anybody can say that they have an idea for a movie. My question is, what did you do today to make that movie happen?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>8 ) What types of obstacles did you have to overcome?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The biggest obstacle was my inexperience. I’ve always been a gifted writer, but writing a screenplay is a different world. Thankfully I had Phil giving me his input and sharing his ideas, but he’s a rookie too! And don’t get me started on filming. I thank God for Sam Tabari and Tanner Grimshaw, our crew. Their experience as film students really helped a lot, and I was blown away by the editing and music that they did. I hope to work with them again someday.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>9) What have you learned about yourself through this journey?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I have learned how much I love film. Originally I saw myself as just a writer, but this thing has snowballed into so much more. I love everything about the process, from the storyboards and scouting locations, to casting, directing, editing, music- the whole 9 yards. Writing is my primary focus, but then again I have A.D.D.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>10) Who/what keeps you grounded?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">My faith keeps me grounded. Without the Lord in my life, I’d be a completely different person. Every morning starts with prayer and spending some quality time with my Bible and/or my devotionals. I am not a morning person and oftentimes I am running late, but I need that to remind me of what I am truly trying to accomplish that day. Thank God for smart phones. Need scripture? There’s an app for that.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>11) Has your personal life changed as a result of your career achievements?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I think that I am more grateful. Putting myself into the character’s shoes really made me appreciate what I have.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>12) How do you embody guts, glamour and grace? (Must answer)</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I am fearless. I am secure in myself, my beliefs, my talent, and my vision. I used to be afraid of failure until I realized that without failure there can be no success.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>13) What’s one defining moment in your career?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">To be honest, I don’t think it has happened yet. I had a huge victory when we finished the script, and then another when we premiered the trailer on YouTube. We got almost 1000 hits in 24 hours! However, I think that the defining moment is coming.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>14) Who/what are your favorites (pick 5):</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">a)    Charity – American Cancer Society. My Grandmother died of cancer and every year I participate in the Relay for Life event.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">b)    City(ies) – Seal Beach. It has everything.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">c)    Color – Purple. Strange for a guy, I know. But it’s the color of royalty, and someday I will be king.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">d)    TV Show – Too many to choose. HBO is a big one with <em>True Blood</em>, <em>Hung</em>, and <em>Entourage</em>. I also love the <em>Boondocks </em>on Cartoon Network. I watch <em>Law and Order SVU</em>, and <em>CSI (Vegas and New York)</em>, and I love some of the more clever shows on cable like <em>Burn Notice</em>, <em>Dark Blue</em>, <em>White Collar</em>, and <em>Leverage</em>.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">e)    Animal – I love big cats. I have to say the Jaguar, but the Lion, Panda, and Killer Whale are all in there somewhere.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>15) With your success, do you think money can buy you happiness?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I don’t believe that money can buy happiness, but it can take away some of the things that make you unhappy. I imagine that after we sell Vigilante Project I will have a lot less financial stress, and less stress makes me happy.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>16) What advice can you give to other people on the rise?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The book of <em>Proverbs</em> is the best piece of advice ever given. It’s like a strategy guide for life. <em>Proverbs</em> talks about everything from choosing your spouse, to getting a loan, to being a parent. There are 31 chapters so go to BibleGateway.com and read one chapter a day. You’ll thank me later. Be sure to read the <em>New Living Translation</em> or the NIV. The old school <em>King James</em> will only frustrate you. In fact, e-mail me (<a href="mailto:Chris@VigilanteProject.com" rel="nofollow" >Chris@VigilanteProject.com</a>) and I’ll read it with you. We’ll compare notes.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Other than <em>Proverbs</em>, the advice I would give would be to enjoy the journey. If you’re like me, you have a goal in mind and you’re busting your butt to reach it, but every once in a while, stop and smell the roses. Be true to yourself, enjoy the journey, and don’t be afraid to look stupid.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>17) What’s up next? Projects, trips, next big splurge…</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The sequel of course! Seriously, we do have a sequel that we’re working on as well as a few other films that we’re developing. We’re also looking at the possibility of making a graphic novel. We’ve always loved comics and I think a Vigilante Project comic or graphic novel would be awesome! We’re going to be at the Long Beach Comic Con in October promoting the film, so come out and meet us, shake our hands, and ask some questions. We might even have a comic to sell.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Chris Dickens" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Other than that, right now we have a few different people reading the script. I won’t name drop but we have a pretty well known actor that is interested in the role of Alvin, and some other Hollywood talent that is interested in directing and/or producing. I was lucky enough to find a wonderful script coach/script broker and she is helping us get our project into the right hands.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>18) Anything else you’d like to share???</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I just want to say thank you to my wife Jenny for always having my back, and thank you to the rest of my family as well. I know that Phil wants to thank his wife Lisa, his brother Steve, and the rest of his family too.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>1) </strong><strong>Are you living your dreams?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong> </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Yes. I am pleased to say, Y-E-S, I am living my dreams. I always wanted a career that allowed me to help people, be creative, and a business woman all at the same time. Event Planning is the answer to all my prayers!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">I get to help clients tell their stories and create experiences with events, from invitation to “swag bag,” in an effort to engage their guests in their brand, company, mission, or ”cause,” making it all come to life and become more relevant!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Working with all kinds of people, managing their budgets, and making their visions reality is a career dream come true. I am fortunate to be a professional in a field that is growing and becoming more relevant in business models and marketing campaigns. I truly am blessed to live such a charmed life!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong> </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong> </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>2) Are your career goals in line with your personal goals?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Yes. As an Entrepreneur, your career goals are your personal goals because you take your career…personally. I am always striving to learn more, do more, improve in all aspects of my life —health, finances, time management, etc. — this is especially true as an entrepreneur event planner as I am my brand and I always want and need to know “what’s next?” ”what’s new?” and “how have needs/expectations changed?”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Event planning is an ever-changing, ever-evolving profession. There is a wealth of knowledge and information available, and I want to make sure I have it! So, setting goals to improve in one area of my personal life directly affects my business because as I accomplish goals or try new things on a personal level, I can bring that knowledge to my business and develop professionally.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><br />
</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>3) Tell us about your company.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Buje Concepts, Inc. is an established and informative event consulting firm. We are a team of innovative, creative, and professional event consultants with years of experience in planning and creating mobile tours, corporate events, festivals, promotional events, sponsorships, fundraisers, special events, and private events. We actively develop new ways of event design, from conception to execution (and all things in between).</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>4) Has there been an event/person that has greatly influenced you to be the person you are today?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Yes! Hands down, my mother has taught me so much throughout my life and has greatly influenced the woman I am still becoming. She taught me the importance of self-importance (taking care of yourself and being responsible and accountable for your actions). She taught me the importance of treating others with the standards I expect to be treated with, to believe in myself, as my talents are God-given, and that I am blessed and I should try to be a blessing to others!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">The one event that influenced my life was winning the Harlem Home Makeover contest. I was the recipient of a prize package of gift certificates to partake in services and products provided by Harlem-based business owners. It was that time, meeting other women entrepreneurs, that I was filled with such great inspiration to pursue my own thing. In particular, I was interviewed by a woman who worked for a major print publication that gave me such sound advice. She said, “you should only work hard for <em>you</em>! You are the only person that appreciates your talents.” She then began to explain how she worked for a major corporation for many years, sacrificed her personal life tremendously, and then was laid-off because she was too costly for the operational budget of the company. That reality check changed my way of thinking about success and how I pursue and define it.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>5) How do you empower yourself? What keeps you motivated and staying on course to reach your goals?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I am a planner by nature and I work to decide what my next step should be. Whether it be a training/professional development course, a certification, or a workshop, I stay empowered by keeping busy and keeping it moving! However, my biggest motivator is my faith!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">There are days that I just feel overwhelmed or doubtful. Then, I remember that God placed my dream in my heart and blessed me with talents and gifts to fulfill these dreams; my gifts will make room for me as God has already prepared it to be. So… then I relax, get in my zone, focus, and get back to work!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">I also stay motivated by surrounding myself with other entrepreneurial, like-minded women. Working in a group of others to achieve goals, you find motivation, comfort, a tremendous think tank, accountability, and friendship.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>6) What types of obstacles did you have to overcome?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A major obstacle was managing an events business during a recession where companies and personal clients were restructuring priorities and budgets, putting more emphasis on promotional e-marketing campaigns and customer retention, as opposed to marketing campaigns that encompassed events. My partner and I really had to exercise our brains in different ways to manage our client’s expectations and needs, and work with stricter budgets.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>7) What have you learned about yourself through this journey?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I learned that I had a tendency to get in my own way. I would start to doubt my own instincts. However, I learned to trust my initial gut feeling about something, as well as to trust the decisions I make, even if there is error, because, as a result, there is opportunity to learn and perfect my craft.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>8 ) Who/what keeps you grounded?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Making mistakes, admitting to them, and learning from them.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>9) Has your personal life changed as a result of your career achievements?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">My personal life hasn’t changed a great deal. I am a little busier than before, but I still make time for my family, friends, and doctor’s appointments. Occasionally, I like to take myself out on a date, too! Also, among my friends, I am so supported and loved and have become the go-to guru of events and I kind of love the pseudo-celebrity status.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>10) How do you embody guts, glamour, and grace? (Must answer)</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Guts- I feel the fear and do it anyway! I learned that “can’t” never did nothing for me. When I say I can’t do it, I’ll never know if I could. I always think Nike: “Jen, just do it! What do you have to lose?”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Glamour -I remain simply stated. You can say a lot without saying  much at all. “Less is more” is my style and professional mantra!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Grace- Living by the three C’s: calm, cool, collected. You are how you react to your situations. Your plan will only work if you work your plan! There is always a solution to every challenge, just use your head and your heart and you are already a winner!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>11) Who/what are your favorites (pick 5):</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">a)      Charity- Make A Wish Foundation</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">b)      City(ies)- Philadelphia</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">c)      Color- Blue (cool blue, that is)</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">d)     Movie- <em>Pretty Woman</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">e)      Season- Fall</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>12) With your success, do you think money can buy you happiness?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Absolutely not! All the money in the world can’t buy you anything worth having! I’ve seen some very unhappy wealthy people and I couldn’t imagine living my life not appreciating experiences or gifts because they came too easy.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>13) What advice can you give to other people on the rise?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Believe in your dreams, as God has instilled that dream in your heart and has established all things necessary for you to be successful! However, dreams only get you so far. You have to put in the work to accomplish them.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Do some research in your particular field of interest, talk to an established professional in that field, interview them, shadow them, and learn what steps they took to get where they are.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">After you have done your research, it’s time to make a plan and then work your plan. Set goals with firm deadlines; share your goals with people that will hold you accountable! Keep a journal or log book on what work you have done to accomplish your goals for future reference.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">One rule of thumb I stuck to is that when something doesn’t work, evaluate the situation, decipher what you have learned and you can only be sad about it for one day. When that day is over, get right back to work.  Don’t lose momentum!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Simply… keep pushing on!!!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Jennifer Yelverton" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>14) What’s up next? Projects, trips, next big splurge…</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">With great anticipation, I’m looking forward to new projects on the horizon for Buje as we enter our new fiscal year! I am looking forward to a big international trip to Rio with my girls in 2011; and then I have the pleasure of being my best friend’s Maid of Honor… that’s the best gift a friend can give another- letting them know how much they mean to you! I can’t wait to tell her story!</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">2) Are your career goals in line with your personal goals?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Yes. My career goals were shaped by my personal goals. They are one in the same.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">4) Has there been an event/person that has greatly influenced you to be the person you are today?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Life greatly influenced me to be the person I am today. I was the daughter of teen parents ravaged by drug addiction, prostitution, and crime. Both my parents lost their battle with drugs and died from AIDS. After entering the foster system I endured years of neglect, physical, sexual and emotional abuse, homelessness, and academic failure. I was a little girl from the projects who was used as a drug mule at the age of 6, inept, and expected to fail.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9712" title="smaller white space" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/smaller-white-space1.jpg" alt="smaller white space1 G Spotlight: Christine Carter Davis" width="61" height="19" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">One day I decided I wanted more. I decided I wanted to beat the odds. I had dogged determination, graduated from high school, went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from Norfolk State University with an undergraduate degree in Social Work, a master’s degree in business administration, and an extensive post-graduate education. Life, and a few divinely placed people, was my motivator. I had the choice to lie down and quit, or fight like hell…I chose the latter…against all odds.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Christine Carter Davis" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">5) How do you empower yourself? What keeps you motivated and staying on course to reach your goals?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">I am reminded every day the impact that my life’s mission has on others. To be empowered is to be reminded of that. I am extremely motivated to ensure that one child’s success is no longer the exception but the <strong>norm.</strong> That’s my personal mantra and that of Against All Odds.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Christine Carter Davis" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">6) What types of obstacles did you have to overcome?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">As I spoke about earlier I was parentless, abused, neglected, homeless, and literally left for dead, but my obstacles didn’t end there. I failed the High School Proficiency test, scored poorly on the SATs, and bathed in my high school’s bathroom. Although I beat those insurmountable odds, more obstacles remained. Starting a nonprofit agency without funding, resources, or support was daunting but I realized obstacles were my fuel for pressing onward to achieve my goals.  The poem “Invictus” describes it best: “my head was bloodied but unbowed.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Christine Carter Davis" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">7) Who/what keeps you grounded?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">Undoubtedly my faith and my family keep my grounded. Also the people I serve every day because that once was me.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Christine Carter Davis" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">8 ) How do <strong>you</strong> embody guts, glamour, and grace? (Must answer)</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">I am steadfast, on a mission, and standing to serve. I can counsel a family in crisis, plan enrichment programs for children, meet with dignitaries, change diapers, cook a meal, and give a life-changing message and I can do it all in 4” heels. I AM Against All Odds!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Christine Carter Davis" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">9) What’s one defining moment in your career?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">The day I left my career and followed my dream of serving others&#8211;on my own terms.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Christine Carter Davis" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">10) What advice can you give to other people on the rise?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">People are often debilitated by fear. Fear is what hinders most people from pursuing their dreams and fulfilling their purpose. I would encourage those on the rise to embrace fear because “it’s a fighter’s best friend.” It keeps you sharp and makes you want to survive. The thing is you have to learn how to control it because fear is like a fire burning deep inside. If you control it, it’ll make you hot, but if it controls you, it will consume you.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 G Spotlight: Christine Carter Davis" width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">

Our five-second PSAs showcase champions who have inarguably “beaten the odds,” from celebrities to community leaders, entrepreneurs, public officials, clergy, and more. <p><em>Meet Lindsey Holmes, a vibrant and ambitious young woman taking the business world by storm with her company, LCH Business Social Media &amp; Tech. </em></p>
<p><em> </em></p>
<p><strong>GGG: Are you living your dreams?</strong></p>
<p><strong>LH: </strong>Yes. When I wake up, I am never concerned, only excited about the gifts that the day will bring. I am so thankful that God has turned something that I simply loved to do into not only a career, but also a new, thriving, and valuable industry. I could not envision being or doing anything but what I am and what I am doing right now. I feel so blessed. I feel favored.</p>
<p><span id="more-9501"></span><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>GGG: Are your career goals in line with your personal goals?</strong></p>
<p><strong>LH: </strong>Yes. My core goal is to affect a change in my direct environment and the world. I am a believer in the laws of the Universe and know that our personal goals and career goals are very much aligned. If I work for the greater good of people, then career and money will come easily, and they are! I am also very passionate about productivity, both being and teaching people to be [productive], and there is nothing that takes productivity to its height like social media and technology.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p><strong>GGG: Tell us about your company. </strong></p>
<p><strong>LH: </strong>LCH Business Social Media &amp; Tech is a social media-marketing firm, with a focus on Mobile Application Development. We integrate marketing, PR, mobile apps, and the Web to create highly visible and aggressive marketing campaigns and PR installations. The culmination of one of our projects is a mobile app on the iPhone, Blackberry, or Android platforms: the height of social media. What could be more engaging than reaching someone right in the palm of [his] hand?</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p>We are a certified MWBE (Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise) based in Newark, NJ and recently opened an office in Washington, DC. We are marketers, developers, and innovators. We are pioneering the social media marketing revolution and changing the world through some great campaigns.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p>A previous campaign, Status Is Everything, (<a href="http://www.statusiseverything.org/" rel="nofollow" >www.StatusIsEverything.org</a>) targeted gay men between the ages of 18-34 in Newark, charging them to get tested. We increased the testing rate of this demographic by 200%. We are currently working on the Against All Odds Campaign (<a href="http://www.facebook.com/IAmAgainstAllOdds" rel="nofollow" >www.facebook.com/IAmAgainstAllOdds</a>). Through a stream of five-second PSAs by celebrities, politicians, and community members, we are promoting standing #AgainstAllOdds in education, poverty, and the overall quality of life in urban areas.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p>My dreams are realized when the founder of the supporting organization, Against All Odds, (<a href="http://www.againstalloddsnj.org/" rel="nofollow" >www.AgainstAllOddsNJ.org</a>), a young lady who has persevered through almost every “odd” you could ever imagine, is now getting the visibility, brand recognition, and most importantly, increased enrollment in their after-school programs. This is who we are. This is why I love my job!</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p><strong>GGG: How do you empower yourself? What keeps you motivated and staying on course to reach your goals?</strong></p>
<p><strong>LH: </strong>My faith in God and spirituality are huge to my survival and success. On days when I feel defeated or [feel] that things are impossible, when I can’t even say my prayers aloud, when all I can do is say a quiet prayer because I’m too distressed to even talk, I know God hears every word, and this comfort keeps me motivated.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p>I am also a big advocate of mastermind groups, treasure mapping, and other visualization techniques to achieve my goals. It definitely helps to have other like-minded people hold your visions, and when I treasure-map or write letters to God about my dreams and desires, I put action behind these requests. I also stay very organized and productive. I screen calls!</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p><strong>GGG: What types of obstacles did you have to overcome?</strong></p>
<p><strong>LH: </strong>Starting a new business with a learning curve in a “recession” with no money, a large mortgage, as a woman – a black woman – in the “male dominated and often preferred” field of technology. Obstacle isn’t the word!</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p><strong>GGG: What have you learned about yourself through this journey?</strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>LH: </strong>That I am my own worst enemy. It is not until I tell myself that I can’t do something that it doesn’t get done. I have shown myself this time and time again. When I told myself that no one would “get” social media or mobile apps for business, no one did, and no calls came. When I started thanking God in advance for clarity in my pitch and to simply send clients that would “get” it, He did, and they came quickly, in droves and in the most unexpected ways. I have learned that with faith, all things are possible, especially the impossible.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p><strong>GGG: How do you embody guts, glamour, and grace? </strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>LH: </strong>Guts is head-butting the glass ceiling or any other obstacle. Glamour is doing this without being angry or resentful, as this can be a deadly distraction. And grace is doing all of this in a bad pair of heels, a bag to match, a smile on your face, and a thankful spirit. I do this daily. I am very thankful for my guts, glamour, and grace!</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p><strong>GGG: Who or what are your favorites (pick 5):</strong></p>
<p><strong>Charity:</strong> Against All Odds NJ (because I love what it stands for and its background story – true perseverance).</p>
<p><strong>Cities:</strong> Washington, DC (because it’s home), New York (because it’s my adopted home), and Newark (because it’s my current home and I like what it is becoming).</p>
<p><strong>Colors:</strong> Gold and red</p>
<p><strong>Movie:</strong> Anything with Martin Lawrence. I think he is a brilliant comedian!</p>
<p><strong>Animal: </strong>My Shih Tzu puppy Banks. He’s 3, but will always be my pup.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></strong></p>
<p><strong>GGG: What advice can you give to other people on the rise?</strong></p>
<p><strong>LH: </strong>Have faith in your dreams. If they’re “weird” or ”strange,” that’s even better because that will make you the first! It’s always best to be a pioneer or a leader.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p>Dream big, but act big. Ideas are only good with action. Develop a strategy to achieve your dreams. This strategy should include personal motivation tools like treasure maps, but also include a business plan and marketing plan.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9619" title="WHITE SPACE" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WHITE-SPACE1.jpg" alt="WHITE SPACE1 Lindsey Holmes: Social Media Entrepreneur " width="155" height="45" /></a></p>
<p>Finally, embrace your challenges and challengers. They will make you stronger, allow you to learn and therefore progress, and give you something to gloat about when you’ve made it (silently, in your head).</p>

I’m doing what I had always wanted to do!” I remember the day I officially launched Sela and showcased the first fashion show. At that moment, I realized that I had accomplished my goal and was living my dream of owning a clothing line. I will never forget that day. It is hard work to conquer your accomplishments, but then you strive for more and more, and your dreams become realities.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: Tell us about your company.</span> </strong></p>
<p><strong>LF:</strong> My company is called Sela Mixed-Media Apparel and is based out of South Orange County. Sela creates fun, stylish, and unique apparel for women that is accessorized with recycled trims and fabrics, while maintaining comfort and affordability. The recipe is incorporating hand-drawn graphics, photography, and original accent concepts to make a style all its own.</p>
<p>About 99% of our products are made by hand and created here in So Cal. I pride myself on partnering with local businesses to support the local economy and to give back to the neighboring communities. Every piece gets its own recycled button as a stamp of Sela originality and love.</p>
<p><span style="color: #3366ff;"><strong> </strong></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #3366ff;"><strong>GGG:</strong> <strong>Has there been an event or person that has greatly influenced you to be the person you are today?</strong></span></p>
<p><strong>LF:</strong> My grandmother has been my greatest influence. She always made sure that I remembered who I am, who I was, and who I want to be. Growing up in Southern California will jade, shape, and mold you, but she always made sure I was well-mannered and treated others with respect.</p>
<p>I began visiting my grandparents back East in New Hampshire when I was 8-years-old, where I learned the slower side of life. I would return every summer to spend time at the lake with my family, return to nature, and appreciate a different concept of life. I would be a different woman without her love, motivation, and inspiration!</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: Three years ago, did you envision yourself being where you are today? If not, what’s different? What would you change?</span> </strong></p>
<p><strong>LF: </strong>Honestly, three years ago, I had no idea where I would be. It has been two years since I quit my job working at Oakley, as an Apparel Product Developer, to start my venture with Sela. I didn’t know where it would take me, but that was the exciting part – not knowing the future, outcome, or consequences. I didn’t realize how hard it is to own your own business, and no one ever will until you are “in it.”</p>
<p>It is hard, challenging, and at times, exhausting, but it’s all worth it working for yourself and not having to answer to anyone. Due to the economic climate that we are all experiencing these days, I’m not exactly at the level where I have set my accomplishments, but that doesn’t mean I am giving up. It is fueling me to think of new and exciting ideas to keep Sela going. It’s all about recreating and reinventing. Think Madonna’s style.</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: How do you empower yourself? What keeps you motivated and staying on course to reach your goals?</span> </strong></p>
<p><strong>LF: </strong>I keep myself motivated by surrounding myself with positive people and positive energies. I keep remembering how unhappy I was in a corporate environment and how rewarding it is to work for yourself. I want to make a difference in how apparel is conceptualized, produced, and perceived. I don’t want to be another clothing company mass-produced out of a foreign country. I have been to those countries and in the factories and don’t want to be a part of it.</p>
<p>The best advice I ever got was in college from one of my Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) instructors. “Never burn your bridges in this industry. The fashion industry is so big yet so small,” and I will vouch for that. It’s kind of weird how it all comes full-circle.</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: Who or what keeps you grounded?</span></strong></p>
<p><strong>LF: </strong>My amazing family, friends, and boyfriend. The fashion industry has a tendency to entice you with the glitz and glamour, but at the end of the day, those closest to me are what keep me together. You have to remember what is truly important in life.</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: How do you embody guts, glamour, and grace?</span> </strong></p>
<p><strong>Guts: </strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong> <strong>LF:</strong><strong> </strong>I have always been an independent, adventurous risk-taker. Even now at 28-years-old, my mom always finds a way to remind me of my stubbornness…I have a track record of going against the grain and zigging when everyone zags.</p>
<p>It was no surprise to my family when at age 25, I was going to embark on my own company. Just two years ago, I officially gave notice to my 9-5 corporate job that I would be leaving to pursue Sela full-time. I quit without having a part-time job lined up. That probably wasn’t the smartest thing I’ve done, but I knew that everything was eventually going to be okay. And, of course, it was.</p>
<p><strong>Glamour: </strong></p>
<p>Growing up, I was always interested in art, colors, and styling. Both my parents are creative, so I inherited a double dose of innovative traits. My mom taught me how to sew at an early age, and I continued to learn through high school and college where I eventually ended up at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM).</p>
<p>I knew I naturally had the design side down, but I wanted to learn about marketing and business. In March of 2006, I graduated with an Associates of Arts degree in Merchandise Marketing. All through my college career, I assisted in fashion shows all over San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles. I worked for a downtown Los Angeles designer, Julie Autri, for a short time, where I learned everything from sales to marketing to photo shoots to technical textile concepts. Then the opportunity arose to work in the apparel department at Oakley.</p>
<p>I thankfully accepted and began working as an Apparel Product Developer for Men’s and Women’s Tees and Fleece. I had so many amazing experiences and learned so much from working at Oakley. I was able to travel the world and see how the apparel industry truly functions. It’s not as pretty as everything thinks it is. Those experiences helped me realize how important it is to keep our economy local. After two years of working in the action sports industry, I decided it was my time to create something new, funky, eco-friendly, and from my heart.</p>
<p><strong>Grace: </strong></p>
<p>The fashion industry is fast-paced, ever-evolving, and extremely competitive. The stress is high and one has to learn how to cope with the endless challenges and obstacles. I somehow have the ability, [and that] probably came from my dad’s side…I believe in destiny and the realities of life. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen, so take it as it comes. All the hard work pays off when you see the positive reaction to the clothing. It is indescribable to see the connection and the emotional relationship between a consumer and the product. That’s what a true designer wants to accomplish: inspiration. I see beauty everywhere, and I want to share my thoughts and conceptions with others through my apparel.</p>
<p><strong> <a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Models2.jpeg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-9363" title="Models" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Models2.jpeg" alt=" Lauren Farnham" width="300" height="200" /></a></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: What is one defining moment in your career? </span></strong></p>
<p><strong>LF: </strong>A defining moment was when I recently did a guest speaking event at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. I talked about my experiences through college, through the corporate world after graduating, and then starting and running my own company. I do the seminars because I want students to get all the first-hand knowledge that they can before entering the “real world.”</p>
<p>After the discussion, the faculty expressed how intrigued they were to hear of my experiences and noted how interested the students were. They even suggested that I teach there. I always wanted to teach at FIDM later in my career, but didn’t think it would be suggested so soon. It felt so good to hear that students enjoyed valuable information that will help them pursue their careers.</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: Who or what are your favorites?</span> </strong></p>
<p><strong>Charity: </strong>OC Breast Cancer Fundraiser. Sela was the featured apparel brand for the 6th annual event, where they raised just over $15,000 for the Susan G. Koman chapter in Orange County.</p>
<p><strong>Cities: </strong>Hong Kong. So much shopping! New York City takes second place.</p>
<p><strong>Color: </strong>Red, red, and more red! I love the passion and energy.</p>
<p><strong>Designers: </strong>Betsey Johnson, Gwen Stefani L.A.M.B., and Alexander McQueen.</p>
<p><strong>TV Shows: </strong>Tough call between <em>The Office, Project Runway, </em>and <em>Deadliest Catch</em>.</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: With your success, do you think money can buy you happiness?</span> </strong></p>
<p><strong>LF: </strong>Not for me. Maybe for some people, but not for this gal. Money creates more problems. I am actually trying to simplify my life. Less complications equals less stress, [which] equals a happy Lauren.</p>
<p><strong></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: What advice can you give to other people on the rise?</span> </strong></p>
<p><strong>LF: </strong>My best advice is to remember who you are, stay true, and don’t give up. Not all goals are easy to conquer, and it is harder for some than others. Stick with it and keep the negativity out.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: Are you living your dreams?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>SC:</strong> Absolutely! Not only am I living my dreams but I am fulfilling my purpose and what I was called by God to do on this Earth. To serve!<span id="more-8906"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: Are your career goals in line with your personal goals?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>SC: </strong>Yes. However, I choose to prefer to reference my “career” as my “life’s work.” As a result of the personal goals I have set for myself, my life’s work aligns with those goals. The more fulfilled I become in the pursuit of carrying out my “life’s work,&#8221; the more I am able to achieve my personal goals. For me, they go hand-in-hand. Without my “life’s work,&#8221; I would not be able to fulfill my personal goals.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: Tell us about your company.</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>SC: </strong>I am the founder of My Daughter’s Keeper, Inc. (MDK), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which provides support and resources to help strengthen mother and daughter relationships. I am also the founder of Project Single Moms Worldwide, a national 501(c)3 organization which works to create and identify opportunities to enhance the quality of life for single moms. Also, I serve as the national spokesperson for Project Working Mom 2010, an online education scholarship program presented by eLearners.com. I am the producer of the Women Who Rule the World Networking Dinner Series, which is part of the Project Working Mom 2010 campaign.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Mom-receiving-coaching-2-Trey-Burns.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-8909" title="Mom receiving coaching 2 Trey Burns" src="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Mom-receiving-coaching-2-Trey-Burns-300x200.jpg" alt="Mom receiving coaching 2 Trey Burns 300x200 Stephanie Clark" width="300" height="200" /></a><a href="http://www.gutsglamgrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Stephanie-Clark-at-Project-Working-Mom-Atlanta-2.jpg"></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: Has there been an event or person that has greatly influenced you to be the person you are today?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>SC:</strong> My mother has been the greatest influence in my life. She is a woman of great strength. As the youngest of 13 children, I grew up watching her work hard as an entrepreneur to raise her children as a single mother after the death of my father. Her life taught me about the importance of faith and serving others. I also learned the meaning of perseverance and that “failure is simply not an option” when it comes to raising children while pursuing your personal goals and aspirations.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: How do you empower yourself?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>SC:</strong> I empower myself through my continuous connection to God. I talk to him every day, all day. I speak to Him in the silence of my mind and heart about every decision or choice I must make in my life. I understand that my choices are not only in my own personal best interest but in the best interest of my daughter and the many women and girls who look up to me for leadership, encouragement, and empowerment. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I seek His direction through daily prayer, meditation, praise, and the study of His word.  Though my life is extremely busy, I know it is all because of God’s plan for my life and it is what He has called me to do. I remind myself daily that “To Whom Much Is Given Much Is Required.” I have been blessed abundantly and highly favored, so I seek to serve God and others at all times, even when I grow weary.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: Who or what keeps you grounded?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>SC:</strong> My daughter and God keep me grounded.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: How do you embody guts, glamour, and grace?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>SC:</strong> I have stepped out on faith numerous times in my life to honor God’s call on my life. Ten years ago, I decided that I never wanted to work for corporate America or anyone else other than God. So, I left the employment of several companies to start my own business. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In 2004, I ceased operating my for-profit company, which generated more than $15,000 a month and supported my livelihood and lifestyle. Eventually, I realized in 2004 that MDK was my calling and my life’s work, and I would have to cease operating my for-profit business to dedicate 100% of my time to serving others. It’s another story to go into what I have gone through stepping out on faith and trusting God for everything. I just realized yesterday during a moment of reflection that it has been ten years since I have worked for anyone as an employee other than God. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">For my obedience, God has truly made provisions for me and my daughter to serve mothers and daughters, adolescent girls, and single moms, without skipping a beat most times. My daughter has never wanted for anything and although I haven’t received a full-time salary over the past seven years (except when I went to work for another non-profit for one year in 2006), our lifestyle continues to get better. It has not always been an easy journey, and I have some stories to tell that most people who know me would not believe.  They would never think that someone who looks so well put together on the outside and has started four businesses, authored a book, and is a sought-out speaker, would have endured some of the pains and hardships I have experienced as a result of making personal and financial sacrifices to be obedient to my call. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A lot of people would not even be able to relate to my journey and would consider me clinically challenged for making some of the choices I have made over the past eight years. Yet, I sit here typing this letter feeling content, fulfilled, and blessed to rise each morning doing work I am extremely passionate about. Yes, I gave up the big salary, certain material luxuries, and even lost a few close friends, but the intangible things I have gained in serving others are priceless and far more valuable to me. At the ripe age of 43, I am still relatively young and attractive and living the second half of my life as an empty-nester. My daughter has completed her second year of college as a result of receiving a full academic scholarship. She is a beautiful and brilliant young lady and my greatest accomplishment.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: With your success, do you think money can buy you happiness?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>SC: </strong>Money can buy you temporary happiness through the obtainment of material possessions. However, there is nothing more valuable than the joy and happiness you can experience simply through the love of God, family, and friends.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: What advice can you give to other people on the rise?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #000000;">SC:</span></strong> Live life on purpose and with passion. At the end of the day, if you are not happy and fulfilled with your job or career, then you are not living a life that is aligned with God’s purpose or life’s work He has called you to do. Have the guts to step out on faith, and do not allow fear to stop you from rising to the top!</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: What’s up next? Projects, trips, next big splurge? </span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>SC: </strong>I am looking forward to the remaining Project Working Mom “Women Who Rule the World” Networking Dinners presented by eLearners.com coming up in New York City (June 18), Chicago (August 13), and Washington DC (September 17); relocating to Atlanta from New Jersey on June 30; speaking at the National Coalition of 100 Black Women’s Leadership Retreat in Tampa, FL on June 11; speaking at the 100 Black Men of America’s Conference in Hollywood, FL on June 17; and speaking, exhibiting, and doing a book signing at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans July 2-4; and publishing three book projects this year. Oh yeah, taking a nice vacation some time before the end of the year.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="color: #3366ff;">GGG: Anything else you would like to share?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>SC:</strong>  We are all called to serve! Be a blessing to someone else and watch how God blesses you in return!</p>
