GGG: Why is travel an important part of your life?
SE: My family has always traveled. My husband and I often take our kids on quick weekend trips, even if simply to a nearby hotel for a change of scenery. We are always looking for new adventures and places to experience. In addition to family travel, I created Living La Diva Loca, a travel company dedicated “to the creation of amazing girlfriend getaway vacations.” I started traveling with girlfriends annually after being inspired by five close girlfriends and our need to reconnect and get away from our hectic lives.
GGG: Why are girlfriend getaways great for women?
SE: Women can often get tunnel vision – we’re so focused on the family, work, and life that we forget to take care of ourselves and many times neglect spending time with our girlfriends. Girlfriend getaways give us a chance to relax and let our hair down with friends we may not get to spend time with often, while visiting a new location and trying out a new adventure!
GGG: What’s your best travel advice?
SE: Be flexible! Traveling rarely goes as planned. Airport delays, hotel room disappointments, lost luggage, you name it, it may happen. During one of my girlfriend getaways, the resort that we selected wasn’t up to “Diva” standards – they didn’t have a spa that was advertised and the service wasn’t great – BUT we were all so excited to be in the Bahamas with each other that we made the best of it and had a blast!
GGG: What was your best traveling adventure?
SE: One of my most memorable vacations is London last November with my mom and St. Thomas with my husband. I’ve visited London several times before but visiting the city with my mom put a different spin on it. We were able to tour, shop, people-watch, and saw the fabulous stage production “Wicked”! It was the ultimate girl getaway!
